Ill manors

Ill manors is a film that is directed by Ben Drew (Plan B) it is about the struggles of the UK underworld and the hopelessness of somebody who only has drugs to help them survive. This film was set in the backdrop of the London Riots and it offers an alternative view of what happened. It was a small Budget UK drama. Its budget was an Estimated 100,000 and it was given an 18 certificate. The cast of the show were amateurish and they didn’t have any experience. The Main Actors are: Riz Ahmed, Ed Skrin, Natalie Press and Nick Sagar. Riz Ahmed and Ed Skein are the two closet characters and they both grew up in care. There are many shots that have shown them growing up together with the latter being more troubled. Whilst the other character Aaron seems to have more of a heart. This could be shown by the prostitution sequence in which Aaron seems to stick up for the female. Ed Skrien could be an example of the Dysfunction of the Care system that worked well for Aaron, but Ed clearly has some unresolved problems from his childhood. This film could also be about the Humiliation and the Male mind set when they have had such bad childhoods and the Drug culture for the user and the seller. There are many examples of people that have been embarrassed. For example, when Marcel is held at gunpoint by Kirby. Marcel was humiliated, this resulted in Kirby death. Another theme inside this show could be how easily people could be lured in to this. This could be shown by the how easily Jake wanted his world. He knew what the gang did, however he allowed them to manipulate him to beat up his own friend and kill somebody else. This could be an example of the appeal of the UK underworld. One scene that was rather disturbing was the one in which the female was prostituted to pay back for what she stole. The girl was sold off to a load of sleazy males for petty cash. This again could be an example of the Dysfunction that has plagued Ed live. This could also show the hopelessness of somebody that has nothing to live for apart from drugs. In addition, I think that the director is trying to send a message to the audience about the struggles that these people face, perhaps suggesting that society should do more to help these people. Overall, I think that Ill manors were well made and it would be hard to beat with the limited budget. I think that they raised awareness of the UK underworld. Considering that it was released after the euphoria surrounding the Olympics and the Jubilee I think that this film raises awareness of the troubles of the UK and gives people a stiff reminder of what happened in the previous summer. I would rate this film 7/10.
