Media- Task 1+ Task 2

Fast and Furious
E-Media
The film is promoted through E-media for a variety of Platforms. This film is promoted through peoples individuals twitter accounts. This is done as the stars of this film are well-recognized actors. Below would be an example the stars tweeting about the film, there is also an example of the stars endorsing this product through Instagram.

The film also has an individual webpage and this is also used to promote this film. They use the webpage as an official base for this film. This webpage has links to the Facebook Page and Twitter page. They also have links to the trailer. The webpage also incorporates interactivity with the audience. This is done through several medians. Firstly, the website features a link to twitter. This allows the webpage to see what people are saying about the film. This allows interactivity as the thoughts of the audience are being shown in the webpage. The website also allows globally-recognized people to have their opinion. This people would fit in to the two – step -flow model, as the people chosen are opinion formers. Furthermore, there is also some interaction with the members of cast. Each member of the film has something to say about the film. This has allowed the audience to interact with members of the public. They all say something about their character that they’re acting as. Furthermore, I think that this is one of the few webpages that has incorporated Instagram. This website allowed members of the audience to take pictures of their highly-modified cars and upload them to the site. This has allowed the webpage to gather images of highly- modified vehicles. In addition, they also used YouTube to help them to promote this film and include the audience. They showed when the film was being started, through Vin Diesel submitting a video informing the audience about the start of Fast 6. The FAQ’S were run by members of the cast. This involved the audience submitting their questions to members of the audience submitting questions to their favourite members of cast. I think that this is also an example of interactivity as the audience are being actively involved.

Broadcast Media
This film was also promoted through Broadcast media. The stars were the people that were promoting the film. I think that members of the cast appeared on popular talk shows in several nations around the world, these included Jonathan Ross and Jay Leno. These are both popular shows that would appeal to the mainstream greatly. These shows have similar target audiences; I think this audience is 15-50. Members of the cast appeal in these talk shows. The stars of the shows are the ones that promote it, with Vin Diesel appearing in both of these shows.  This platform used broadcast to attract the mainstream. They use popular talk shows that help to promote this film, as these audiences would be large and similar to that target audience. Broadcast media also had many different advertisements. These adverts were done after the watershed as there were scenes that weren't appropriate before the watershed. These adverts were useful as a promotional tool, as it increases people’s awareness of fast and furious 6.
Broadcast media was used as it appeals to the largest group of people. Broadcast media does appeal to the mainstream and this is the target audience of this film. This film was used promoted in prime-time TV, which would share a similar target audience to this film. This was promoted mainly through talk shows and advertisements.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/idoMGdPfnIo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Radio wasn’t a popular platform for this show; I think this was because that it would be difficult to find a radio station with a similar target audience. Radio in general would appeal to older people. In addition, the target audience of this film wouldn't listen to much radio. I this has resulted in this film not using radio as a means of promotion.
Print
This film was also promoted greatly through the print platform. There was many different articles published that helped the film. There were also reviews from places like fast tomatoes and empire. This also helped the promotion of the film. There were also some articles published about fast and furious. This was inevitable due to the scale of the film. Examples of this:
·
The size of the film would allow them to receive attention. I think that there could've been a media bias, considering that this film was in London.  I think that the setting also allowed them to receive more attention than they normally would have had.  However, print media is declining as more people would be seeking an e-media alternative. At the time of the release people were still choosing newspapers, this film was shown in some of the most popular newspapers. The print platform is also used to allow people to give their opinions about the film. This is done through reviews of the film. One of the reviews from Owen Williams, who reviews many film that are in this genre like Kick-ass. "No film that includes a Vin Diesel flying head-butt could remotely be called a write-off, and Furious 6, like its predecessors, is a big screen no-brainier that’s objectively terrible but undeniably pleasurable. A reversal from Fast 5, it’s still a gear above all the other sequels. And an end-credits teaser promises much for the future" .

Task 1-

E- Media-
Fast and Furious 6 webpage both had individual own Facebook page and Twitter page. Exam. These products were also endorsed by the stars individual pages. The Facebook page had some shots of the film and how it was created. They also encourage interactivity by including some competitions and prizes, like meeting the cast. The stars that the film has are used to help to sell the film. For example, Vin diesel and Dwayne Johnson are both globally recognized figures; therefore they’d be able to sell the films. Some of the stars also used sites like Instagram to show the whole cast. This was done at the time of the filming. This allowed the audience to be involved and informed about their film. Instagram allowed the audience to see their film being creating and allow them to see what their cast is doing.  Another aspect of E-Media that was used a lot was YouTube. This platform was used as strong

Print Media-
There was also a series of print media articles that this film has generated. I think that the people mainly publicized the setting of this film. I think that the setting of this film allowed people to be proud of London; therefore people would be more likely to endorse the products. I also think that the size of the film also contributed greatly to the amount of press it received. There was also a series of reviews from sites like empire and rotten tomatoes. Overall, the press that this film received was reflection on the size of the film.  The majority of the attention was positive; I think that the setting of the film played a major part in that.
Changes in Print Media-
Print media is changing quickly, less people are purchasing newspapers. The majority of the media consumption would be done through e-media.  E-Media would have a larger target audience and would be more likely to target young people, which Fast and Furious 6 is targeted at.  Print media is declining and less people are consuming it. For this film and any film to target their full target audience, E-media is the best platform.

Broadcast Media-

This platform was also used to help to promote the film. Some of the stars like Vin diesel and Paul walker both appeared on the poplar talk show host Ellen. The director didn't play a major part in the promotion of the film; the stars were the sole people that sold the film. Furthermore, their also wasn't many radio appearances. I think that this is down to the demographic that this film is planning to target, not using this platform.  The shows that the stars appeared on were large prime time TV, who would appeal to the mainstreamer Psychographic group. Furthermore,  I also think that this film had trailers on  cinemas to also help them to target this demographic.  Overall, I believe that this film mainly used Television to help promote it, the stars were the people who appeared in the shows.  Television has a mass appeal and given the size of this show, I think that as this film is big budget television would help them to attract this audience.  The Key members of the cast were the people that had were in the show

E- Media-
This could be the largest threat and advantage to the film industry.  People are able to download pirate copy instantly and even when the film was on cinema.  A decent copy of this show was available to download after two weeks of the release. In addition, there is also a new way of streaming films thorough sites like Netflix and Blink box, this would also damage the need for a video.. This could also reduce the demand for pirate copies, as some of these sites require the user to pay a small amount of film. There is also the interactivity aspect that a film should consider. The audience could want something from the film, like merchandise or gaming. The audience of this show would want people to have some kind of competition or a chance to meet people. For instance, chances to win a meeting with the cast, all of the competitions that are on the webpage are relevant to the genre.  This film also allowed some members of the audience to be in London when they were shooting the film, this was a competition.  I think that for a film of this size e-media wasn't as important aspect. I think that the size of the film has made it noticeable. I also think that the popularity of the franchise has also made it popular. I think that e-media helped people to create user-generated items have helped this. For example, people’s reviews and thoughts about the film could help to endorse this. For example, the two step flow model states that opinion formers help top decide the trends of the people. I as social media have evolved; new opinion formers would have an easier platform to express their views. This would allow a type of free promotion for Fast 6. Another aspect of e-media that is uses to aide in the films promotion is YouTube. Members of the cast have appeared on the YouTube preview show, Jake Hamilton. This is another form of promotion that would aide this film when it is being promoted. In addition, I believe that this person would be considered as a opinion former. If he endorses this product I  do believe that it would make it more appealing to his show.  Overall, I think that E-media was used to help the film be promoted. I think that this film was promoted through the cast individual accounts, through medians like Instagram and twitter.  The cast appearance on the Jake Hamilton show would also help in endorsing this product, as I believe he is an opinion former.

Ill Manors Social Media

YouTube:
The YouTube channel is used to promote the website and the brand of Ill manors. Firstly, the video is used to promote plan B appearances within the media, with the radio one interview being an example of this. In addition, The YouTube channel is also used to help with the marketing campaign of the film and it features the trailer of the film and some marketing tools within the campaign. However,  the film was promoted more by the studio that has produced it, Revolver entertainment. The production company offers more detail and features more things, meet the characters could be an example of this. In addition, I also believe that the Plan B YouTube channel promotes plan B himself.

Facebook:
The Plan B Facebook page has 8.3 likes, however this was properly a higher figure when the film was released . This webpage is used to promote Ill manors before the release . It also promotes the production companies and offers audience some competitions, which would increase the element of interactivity with the audience.  The Facebook site has links to the film and the trailer. This again is to promote the film before the relase. It also has some links to stories and reviews of the webpage

Twitter:

I think that the Ill manors twitter page was used to offer people a chance to say their opinion. This was the platform that was used the most; I think this was due to the interactivity of twitter in comparison to other social networks. Furthermore, twitter was also used to aid the tag London campaign. Furthermore, the also was a series of hash-tags that were used by people and the account to promote the film. This is another advantage of twitter. I believe that twitter account talked about the social issue behind the film, it did have the conventional means of advertising products. Twitter was used offer a more interactive platform to people and allow people to speak to each-other.

Instagram-

Plan B used his own Instagram site to help him add an element of realism for his audience. Instagram is a platform that asks users to post images of things. When Plan B was directing the film, he used his Instagram to show his face when editing and some behind the scenes footage. For example, he posted an image of him in a sleepless night. This platform was used to see what plan B was like when editing and showed what editing is like to the audience. Furthermore, I think that Instagram was a new software when this film was begin created. I think this is why it wasn't used as much as Twitter and Facebook

Ill Manors- Tag London

1.Summarise the Ill Manors Tag London campaign in 100 of your own words?
The Ill manors tag London campaign is allowing the target audience of Ill manors to express themselves in a platform that suites them. As ill manors is targeted to a demographic of people who would live in the estates, a common stereotype of these people is that they like graffiti a lot. This proves true as this campaign reinforces a that stereotype. However, it has done it in a manner that is legal and allows people to express themselves. This kind of campaign is unique to this type of film and I belvie that plan B did this to appeal to people who live in estates. He has reinforced a streotype, however he also has allowed people to express their emotions in their own way.

2. How does the Ill Manors Tag London Campaign help promote the film?
I belive this has helped Plan B to promote this film, as he is only targeting the people that he wishes to target. Furthemore, i also belive that Grafti Art would stay their for a long time, therefore more people would be able to view it . However, I belive that the Tag London campaign helps to raise awarenss of the broader isusue that this film is about, discontent youth.

3. What links are there between the Tag London campaign and other texts that I've Studied?
I think that this could relate to the the narrative that Plan B has had throughout all of his media appearances. I think that Plan B has allowed the people that he feels he represented to express what they feel in their own manner.

4. Why Might user-genrated campaigns like this be more sucessfull than traditional media campaigns?
I Think that for a topic as contraverisol as this and a topic like this would'nt get much media attention. This would result in Plan B being forced to use alternative methods of promoting his lifestyle. This alternative way could be done by user- created content.

5.Choose five of the tweets above and for each one write what target audience the tweet could appeal to (demographics and psycographics) and link this tweet to other texts that I have studied?

WHY ARE THE RICH GETTING RICHER AND THE POOR GETTING POORER. PFFT TO THE GOVERNMENT.THE OLYMPICS.WILL DESTROY LONDON #ILLMANORS

I think that this tweets is target to people who are within Plan B target audience. This has to appeal to Reformers, as they're the only group who would want change in the world. I think the purpose of this tweet is to gain the attention of the discontent youth. I believe that all of these tweets summarises what Plan B stands for. It shows what he means and summarises the appeal of Ill Manors for the Target audience. In addition, I also believe that these tweets are done on a social network. If any of these tags became popular, it would gain even more promotion. Social media is a free platform and it would allow people to have controversial opinions. The Tag London campaign used this to it's advantage as it did allow people to form opinions freely. The Tag London campaign used social media to attract people to share their opinions on the broader issue that ill manors targets. Below are some of the interesting tweets

WHY ARE THE RICH GETTING RICHER AND THE POOR GETTING POORER. PFFT TO THE GOVERNMENT.THE OLYMPICS.WILL DESTROY LONDON #ILLMANORS

LONDON IS CALLING, THE CITY IS CRUMBLING #ILLMANORS.

#ILLMANORS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF CAMERON'S BROKEN BRITAIN

#ILLMANORS YOU CAN'T EAT MONEY...BUT YOU CAN EAT THE RICH
WHY ARE THE RICH GETTING RICHER AND THE POOR GETTING POORER. PFFT TO THE GOVERNMENT.THE OLYMPICS.WILL DESTROY LONDON #ILLMANORS
LONDON IS CALLING, THE CITY IS CRUMBLING #ILLMANORS.

#ILLMANORS #IGNORINGTHEPROBLEM DOES NOT SOLVE IT? #INSPIREKIDS DON'T PUT THEM DOWN? #SOCIALCHANGECOMESTHROUGHACTION NOT INACTION? @4PLANB

LR-Essay Question

LR- Discuss the similarities and differences in more detail, do a paragraph?

There are many similarities and differences between the usages of social media.  Firstly, I believe that there is a consistency within all of the webpages that are associated with ill manors. This can be shown within the Twitter and Facebook page. Both of them use similar images and ought similar values and messages through. It is important for any brand to have these consistencies.  In addition, I also believe that these two webpages are appeal to a wider range of people. For instance, I believe that the new platform of choice for people that Plan B wishes to target would be on Twitter. I believe that twitter is the reformers –social network of choice, this would be shown on some of the tweets that this website has.

In addition, I also believe that social networking in general is used to promote the Plan B and his ideologies. All of the social-networks that are used are connected through these ideologies. All of the social-network generates some of the most thought-provoking scenes, the John Cooper Clarke. However, I think this is done more in twitter, as I have stated that I believe that this is the reformer social-network. Furthermore, I also believe that the Facebook page was used more to promote Revolver entertainment and Plan B. I acknowledge that the necessary stuff is there like the trailer. However, I believe that Facebook doesn't appeal to a wider range of people or the full target audience of Ill manors.

Ill Manors- Social media

In all of the social networks that Plan B used to promote his film .All of them are consistent and all relate. Some of the things that the networks say, some images that they've used are all consistent. Interestingly, all stages of the production was also shown to the audience, through plan B personal twitter account.

In addition, the Facebook page and the twitter page also promote some of the production companies, revolver entertainment. In addition, the Facebook page also promotes other films  that revolver created. I think that this is an example of synergy, as revolver are promoting themselves through one of there interests which would be Ill Manors..

Mock Exam

1.What codes and conventions does the trailer use to establish the text's genre?

Media Audiences: Who does this text/brand appeal to?

Media Representations:   How is gender/ethnicity/age/disability/sexuality/a place represented in the extract?

Media Institution
In which ways is the trailer typical of the video games industry?

Ill manors Promotional

This is the film cover for the ill manors. This has many conventions what’re common in this genre, like an image, gun, and cloudy skies. The images are key in showing the audience what genre this film is on.  For example, the gun alone would indicate to the audience that this film is about violence. The high-rise buildings in the background could indicate to the audience that the film is about crime. The photography alone shows the audience what this film is about.
This video also does some of the more conventional means of advertising itself. This film uses ratings to promote this film. This is the most obvious way of advertising the product. In addition, many of these people that reviewed the film are opinion formers. If an opinion former says the film is good, this would encourage many people to watch this film.
Moreover, the directors’ name is smaller and seems smaller than the film. The rappers name is smaller than his real name. When the directors’ name is selling the film his name would be in bold. When the story is selling the film, usually the directors’ name isn't in bold.  As the directors name isn't in bold. I think that this could suggest the director is selling the film. This could be a down to that this was the first film that plan b directed; therefore this wouldn't be a consequence of this being the first film that he has directed.

This is an NME magazine which has Plan B being at the centre of the image. This image looks aggressive and it has an offensive sign on it. This is interesting as it was released on the promotional campaign for this film. In addition, as plan b is currently directed a film and became a household name in the UK, it would seem bizarre for him to do a release like this or even ill- advised considering his aspirations and the status he wants to achieve. The image is the most powerful thing about this magazine cover. The symbol included in this image. Plan B almost looks like the stereotypical person who has been let down by society.  Perhaps an image for David Cameron had broken Britain. This image was created by a person who is educated and a film director.  There is also a serious heading in this image as well” David Cameron is very afraid”. I think that this leaves the reader with an enigma as I think people could be wondering what to be afraid of. Whether that is a drug abused aggressive male. Perhaps David Cameron should be afraid of the quantity of males  and females  that have no hope.

This is another promotional advert for this film. It has the key slogan along the top and a colour clash, with the black and yellow. The main image of the person would appear to be vomiting over the Ill logo. This vomit seems to be vomiting out over t I logo. The background image is also interesting as it clashes with black dramatically. In addition, this also seems to have very little in common with the image above, as perhaps this would appeal to a different type of person. I think this picture would appeal t to somebody who’ doesn't really watch films that are in the genre of ill manors.   Unlike the first image I think that this film would appeal to somebody who doesn't know much. I think that the image is supposed to be hard-hitting and powerful.  The first one isn't as hard hitting and it would appeal to a younger audience due to the content on it, the housing estate.  In terms of demographics I think this film would appeal more to the C1, D demographic. I think this because the colours are lighter, the trailer doesn't show anything that is hard-hitting or off putting. The colour clash would generate attention for people.   Having an estate as the first imagine could be off- putting for people, who might think that this is another hard-hitting emotional film about the UK underworld.

Mock Exam-

WWW: Good attempt to use theory/terminology.
 LR:
This advert is original and positive as it takes a general advert and makes it more modern. This helps to widen the adverts appeal. Usually in adverts in this genre use shock tactics and statistics to show the importance of road safety. This advert doesn't do this. This advert uses physical theatre in conjunction with classical music to show the importance of it. I think that this was key to the success of the advert as I think that adverts that use scare tactics unintentionally deter people from viewing their advert. Having an advert that isn't that obvious in terms of the message it is trying to convey, would properly have a wider range of people viewing it. In addition, as their isn't no dialogue inside this video, the appeal broadens internationally.

This video is also very original as it seems to have both an emotional impact  and a positive message. I think this is what has made this video viral and have many people relate to it. The slogan is also positive. They have chosen bright colours and it subverts from other adverts which usually have colours that're more serious. The government road safety campaign could be an example of this, as this choses black and hyellow as colours. I also think that the slow-motion also impacts the viewers greatly, It slows down the crashing process and shows the impact it could have on your family. In this sequence their is also shots of the young girls hand and the women. This could relate to Propps seven spheres of action, as the man could be shown as the princess that is in need, perhaps the seatbelt could be the donor, as the seatbelt could aide the man in his journey to work.

Print Platform

Why is this platform being used?
Before this film was realised Plan B and any director wanted to get as much press attention as possible. Every article that was written was for promotional purposes and all of them had different target audiences. The Print platform allows many people to view a balanced, logical argument about the film. Print in general is a good way of promotion as it is the oldest way that somebody could promote things. It also appeals to a mass audience at all times.
The Men’s Health magazine is mainly focused on Plan B transformation in to a slimmer body. It talks about how Plan B changed himself during a time that he was editing the film that he had made. This article had been made for motivational reasons.  I think that this article is trying to show that anybody could lose weight no matter how busy that you are. If Plan B could manage it whist editing a film, anybody could lose weight. This would fit in well with the Magazine as the magazine is about Men’s Fitness.
The Guardian Platform is also used to help to promote Ill Manors. This is a mainstream newspaper that promotes equality and liberal ideas. This is a newspaper that would be more likely to give the film that discusses social issues a better reception than most newspapers. This allows the magazine
Do the articles do more than entertain? How?
I think that these article do more than entertain they also inform people about the struggles of editing and motivate people in to this field. For instance, the men’s fitness magazine informs people about how Plan B has changed his body image during the time that he was editing his film. I think that this article has a purpose of motivating people in to improving their body image. I think this because the article talks about his new found confidence when he changed his image.
I also think that the Short-list article is more about how the film was made and how difficult it was. I think that the article was more about the film and the key themes of the film. I think that the narrative of this magazine was how did you make the film and was it difficult.
I also think that the Q magazine is more based around the musical talent of Plan B. This article only talks about the musical side of plan B.As Q magazine is a magazine that is about music. Why would they want to discuss film making I think that the Q magazine article promoted the film that Plan B the least. I do think that Q magazine has a different target audience and more knowledgeable audience than Plan B film is aimed at. However, I do think that Q magazine appeals greatly to two Psycho graphic groups. The Reformers and the Mainstreamer. For this film to be successful I do think they should appeal to these two psycho graphic groups as I think they’re the largest groups.

Does this platform allow the audience to participate/contribute?
The guardian has a comment section which helps the users of the website interact and say their opinion of the film and issue. This is done at the bottom of the guardian page. I think that print platform allows people to easily interact and share. The entire website has links to social networking sites that would allow the users of the product to share the product with people that they may have similar interests to.
What codes/conventions of print interviews are apparent in the examples?
One of the conventions that print work offers is questions. Print work also offers customers pictures or other visual elements. Some questions are asked more formally, whist the fitness magazine has some kind of narrative over the story. The question that the article asks generally seems to fit the magazine that it is about, the men fitness magazine could be an example of this.
Another key convention that is common in some of these articles is an expert opinion. This is most common in newspaper articles. I think that this is done as it adds authority and validity to the authors’ opinion. An example of this could be found in the guardian article.

How is narrative used to tell a story in each text?
In one of the magazines the article uses narrative to show the Lad mentality that Plan B has. In this article I think that this article uses narrative to show what kind of person he is. His reply when asked about the Olympics could be an example of this. This article used narrative to help show some of the ways that this music artist thinks. In addition, this reply alone could show what target audience this magazine appeals to.
In the Men’s fitness magazine the article also uses narrative to show how hard it was for Plan B to change his image whist editing Ill manors. The questions and the replies suggested that it was extremely difficult and this period was tiring. The questions that this magazine asked were about how difficult it was. The readers of Men’s fitness are people that have either changed their body or desire to change their Body.  I think that this magazine narrative is to help motivate people in to changing their body. The artist talks about how his motivation and happiness levels have changed due his new body image.
The guardian article talks the most about the actual film that was created and the issue and the spark behind the film. This article discusses about the social issue and how people could feel about this. I think that the narrative of this article is about the issue. The narrative theme in this article is about how the film was made and how it was.  The Men’s health magazine also has a section for comments however; this doesn’t seem to be in use as nobody did comment. It is important for a magazine to allow the readers to interact as they could meet people that have similar interests and viewpoints. It is also important as if somebody has a complaint about the film they could help to handle it. Comments are important as it allows people to see whether their successful.

Magazine Research

NME has a similar target audience and appeal to the type of show that we are trying to produce. I could use the Artist feature in my magazine.

I think that the Audience of we love pop and the show that we are trying to create would both have similar traits.I could use the celebrity exclusive that this magazine uses.

I think that this audience of E4 would also like James Bond. I like the way this magazine is layout and the way the features of magazine is done. I would like to do a similar thing to this in my magazine.

                                                Top of the pops 2
This magazine has many features that I could use and that is aimed at a similar audience to E4. I like the way this magazine uses features like Gossip and Giveaways to appeal to the audience.

I like the way that the main person in this magazine is. The person is towards the the right. I would like my character to be a similar position.

Title of Publication-
The Title of this publication is Doctor Who. This magazine is based around the show Doctor Who. This show is on the BBC and it is usually shown at 7.00pm. This edition of this show celebrates the 50 years that this show has gone on for.

The Central Image- The Central image is of the current Doctor Who (Matt Smith). I think that he is at the front as he is the current Doctor and proberly plays a key part in the Show. Behind him is the two previous doctor. This could suggest that the two other Doctors play a less significant part in the "Day of the Doctor"

The Cover Line- The main cover line says "The Day of the Doctor". The font is large and it looks relevant to the Genre. I think that the font looked like something you could see in a Sci-Fi film. The Font is located right in the middle of the magaizine. This helps to draw readers attention.

The Slogan- The Slogan for this magazine says " celebrating 50 years". The numbers are in bold. This is located at the top of the magazine. The slogan suggests what could be in the magazine for instance, some memoriable moments or hints about the Day of the Doctor show.

Competitions and Giveaways-  The magazine also features competitions and giveaways along the Gold side bar.

The Real Target Audience- I think that the real target audience of this magazine is from the age of 13- 60. This show is on a public sevice broadcaster and it is usually scedueled around 7.  This is the time where families and most people watch televion. I think that this magazine is aimed at a slightly older audience than the Show. I think this magazine is aimed at people that are 16-40.

Barcode, Date, Price- The Barcode, Date and the Price are located at the bottom right. This is done so that people could view the whole front image and hopefully be atractted to it. A company would hope that somebody would view this magazine front cover and this appeals to them. If it appeals to them they would'nt care as much about price.

Name Checks- This magazien also Name checks the two previous doctors, David Tennant and Matt Smith and an excluxive chat this magazine has had with them. However, I don't think that it is the stars that are selling this magazine. I think that the show is greater than the Stars and the show has more appeal than the stars do.
Colour Scheme- The colour scheme of this magazine is black, gold and red. These are the three key colours in this magazine. I think that the Black goes well agaist the Gold. In addtion, I think that the Gold is used as it  is a celebratory colour and this magazine is celebrating 50 years.

Ill Manors- Synergy

The website that Plan B created in the film that he had directed Ill manors was used to create a hub  for the marketing campaign that had coincided with the launch of the film. The website has:
·         Synopsis
·         Images of the film
·         Behind the scene footage
·         Links to purchase the soundtrack and the film
·         Reaction
·         It also has a part about Ben Drew

The Synopsis

The synopsis of the film is used  to offer some brief guidelines on what the film is about. It helps to entice the customer to the film and it gives a summary of the plot. The synopsis of the film is usually find on other sites like IMDB, however it is also important for the website of the film. In addition, for the viewer of the website to fully understand some of the stills they’re on the website, the synopsis would help them do this.

 Images of the Film

The still section on the website helps the reader to see what the film is about, who is in the film that would be shown and show some of the settings. It is important for a low-budget film to show some stills as it would help the viewer get an idea for film, therefore helping to sell the film.
Film Review/ Critics
People would only watch things that have good ratings; they seek people opinions on the film. If they like the film, people would like to watch it. For example, most of the people who would endorse films like this would be celebrities, therefore they would be opinion formers. Having an opinion former endorse your product would inevitably increase the sales of the film. The poster has fellow musicians like t Tinchy Stryder and  Keys, both of them are opnion former. The director also used the more conventional means to endorse this film, magazines and newspapers. Good reviews will help target people who arent in Plan B fan club and have a greater appeal to people.

Behind the scenes footage
Behind the scenes footage helps to sell the product as many people would see how it was made. You would usually see the actor talking about a character. Some of the people who are in the film and a bit about them. It shows how things were made and shot, the train scene for example .  Behind the scens footage allows people to see how it was made, what kind of people are in the film,
Links to purchase Soundtrack and Film

Any website for any film should have a link to purchase the product. The website was created to sell the film to people. A link to buy the product that the website is selling should be on it.
A feature on Ben Drew

The website also has a feature of directors, why he planned the film, what message he was trying to get across. His intentions for some of the key shots and themes within the film. Why he included these shots and why he did the film. This allows the audience to know about the message clearly and decide if they like the message. If they do they would purchase the product.
Synergy

The website makes use of synergy as it has a link to the trailer and a link to purchase the products. The website also has links to Plan B website. This helps to sell the aritist behind the product.
Jonathan Ross- Interview

Jonathan Ross show is shown at 10.00pm on a Saturday. It features a series a A-list and B-list stars who talk about what they’ve been doing recently. This show appeal to people in the A,B, C1 and D socio-economic demographic. It would appeal the Mainstream psycho graphic show, as this show appeal to almost everybody. In this interview Plan B represents himself as Smart a well-spoken. He talks about series subjects extremely well. Some people who many be watching this show may know of Plan B as a typical rapper who gets up to bad things. However, this appearance on this show helps to change that idea and Plan B represents himself as more than a Rapper. He represents himself as a leader for change. At the beginning he discusses how he was kicked out of school and the kind of person he was. He says in a articulate way, something that somebody who was kicked out shouldn’t be able to do . Plan B’s appearance on Johnathan Ross helped him appear as more than a rapper
Soccer AM-Plan B

Soccer AM is a football based show that is shown at 9-12pm, the show is aimed at people 10-25 and it appeals to the Psychographics group C2,D AND E. I think it appeals to this demographic as they would be more likely to be interested in a football based show. The show doesn’t have many A-list celebrities and most of the guests are from the UK. I think that this show appeals to Aspirers and Mainstreamers greatly. I think that it appeals to aspirers as they would want to be the footballers, celebrities of the world. I think that it would also appeal to the Mainstreamers as they’re people who would Like sport and football is a mainstream sport.

Plan B representation of himself is the exact opposite to the one the one he has shown in Johnathan Ross.  In this show he isn’t well- spoken, his appearance is totally different. The tone of voice he is speaking is different. I think that this is due to people who would be watching this show .  I Think that in Johnathan Ross he represents himself as a man who is articulate, in this show he represents himself as a unarticulated male who became famous.

1.)    Research all of the institutions involved in the production of ill manors. List them with a summary of what their contribution to the film was?
Ill manors was filmed in Forest Gate , London. It was written by Ben drew (Plan B) and it was distributed by Revolver Entertainment. Ill manors was funded by 3 different studio and production companies, Film London Microwave, The BBC films , which helps fund British films. The director was only 21 was he wrote this film. The producer name was called Atif Ghani, cinematography was by Gary Shaw. The film is based on actual stories or things he knew from that estate.

2.)    How much did Ill Manors cost to produce?
Ill Manors had a Budget of 100,000 and it used it to the full amount. This was a fairly small budget.

3.)     What is the Target Audience for Ill Manors?
As the certicate of the film is 18. Some people many say that the target audience from 18-40.However, I think that this film appeal greatly to people who are under 18 and I think that the real target audience is 15-40. It

4.)    Who is the main distributor of Ill Manors?
The main distributor of Ill manors is Revolver Entertainment. They were sold the rights to the film. The film was distributed fairly well as it earned £453,570 in total gross and had some good reviews by fans in amazon and Rotten Tomatoes.

5.)     Compare this with a big budget blockbuster. What are the main similarities and differences?
I think that comparing Ill manors to a big blockbuster is unfair as Ill manors had a far smaller budget. However, in both genres the director wants to make the best film that they possibly could. In addition, both of them are also similar as both of them have a message or a moral to get across. They’re also similar in terms that they both had large marketing campaigns and were both shown on cinemas.

The one key difference between the two genres is that one had a fairly small budget, the other ones have a large. I think that this had benefited Ill manors as they had to use real locations and use inexperienced Actors. It is also common for films like this to have a small budget. I think that having a small budget has helped Tesco.

6.)      How does the trailer for Ill Manors balance plot and spectacle?
I think that trailer did Balance plot with spectacle, however they did have more spectacle. It included many different enigma codes within the trailer and some of the things within the trailer foreshadowed later events .
7.)    How does the trailer for Ill Manors hook audiences into the narrative and pose questions that the film will answer (Barthes: enigma codes)? Identify 3 ways/techniques. Use your notes on the trailer to help.

The trailer attracts people to the film right at the start of the trailer. The quote says “we are all products of environment; some are harder to live in”. This leaves the reader thinking about what that means, it also foreshadows what will happen later in the film. The trailer also shows some of the issues that the film would be talking about, drugs and violence to name a few, this helps to attract people. The film also ends with an enigma code, which leaves the reader thinking about if the character would get shot.
10) Think about the certificate of Ill Manors (18 certificate). Research film certification and outline what is deemed acceptable for this certificate. What is the difference between a 15 certificate and an 18 certificate?
This film has got an 18 certificate as it has:
·         Very strong violence
·         Scenes of Sexual activity or sexual violence
·         discriminatory language and behaviour
·         Frequent strong language

The difference between this and a 18 and a 15 is:
·         Very strong violence cannot be shown
·         Sexual activity or violence
·         Scenes of Horror or violence.

Exam Questions

Media Representations: How is age/gender and ethnicity represented in the video?
I think that the representation of youth in this music video is exaggerated and there is a negative representation of young people in this video. All young people are represented in a negative way in order for Plan B to show this lifestyle. There is also an elderly couple in this video, who is being robbed. This could be an example of Plan B showing the elderly as innocent and not a significant part of society. Furthermore, Plan B uses this negative representation to help him get his point across.  In this video there is a clip of a community centre being closed down. The next shot is of a group of youths doing bad things. The artist has used a negative representation in order for him to suggest that these young people have nothing to do.
The music artist also uses a negative representation of council estates. He uses this stereotype to suggest to people that it is easier for people to get caught up in crime. There are many shots of the derelict estates and many drug dealers in the Estate. This could relate to Perkins theory about stereotypes being based on truth, as somebody who grew up on a council estate is more likely to be involved in crime. Perhaps the artist is suggesting that people in power should invest in council houses and ensure that these people feel part of society.
In this video their also is a negative representation of all the ethnicities within the video. There is a numerous ethnicity who have been included in the video. I think that Plan B is trying to see how easy it is to stereotype people in society. In addition, he was trying to say that people in power generalise these people, they don’t care about the ethnicity of these people or their story. By including all of these ethnicities it suggests that Plan B thinks that generalising these people is dangerous. This could relate Medhurst theory that stereotypes could be a shorthand to make decisions. The usage of stereotypes to this audience allows people to stereotype them easier, or allow them to justify their prejudices.

Media Audiences- Who does this text appeal to/ Why?
I think that the music video appeals to Plan B usual target audience, 15-35 year old. These people would’ve grown up or knew people in the social under-class.This video would also appeal to the  C1, C2, D, E as the D and E demographic  range  I think that his target audience are young and in education. This show would appeal to the Reformer Psychographic range as they would be the most concerned group and eager for change in the world. I think that this would appeal to an older age as this is very factual and it is talking about a social issue. In addition, protest songs are usually listened to by an older audience. In addition, I think that Plan B would also like to appeal to the mainstream group. This music video would only be successful if it did appeal to the mainstreamers.
In addition, I think that this music video also appeals to people who are interest or want reform in the world and are looking out for a hero to do this. This video highlights some of the issues that social underclass are having, it highlights them and places it on a broad scale. For example, the stereotype that people have of people who live in council estates and the lack of funding that these people face. These issues are broad and many people think that people in power aren’t doing enough. As the artist has highlighted some of these issues he has expanded the amount of people that he is targeting.

Media Institutions-In what way is the video typical of music videos and what values does it promote?
This music video is typical and it has all of the key conventions that you would associate with this genre, which could be either Rap or grime. This music video starts off with the warning stating it has explicit genre. This is an important as people who don’t like explicit genre. It than has a series of establishing shots and long shots. This helps to set the scene of the music video with the fumes in the background being dark and images being negative. This is common protest song to slightly hint at what would happen next.
Most of this video is shot in a unused car park in the heart of an estate. This setting is important for this genre as they should choose a setting that is dark and it shouldn’t be shot in a studio. If this music video was shot in a studio, it would lose must of the impact it has on the audience. It is important for this Genre to show real places and real people and their struggles.  Having a unused car park as a setting allows the element of realism, it also uses low key lighting which adds to the effect of the video. In addition, this music video could also promote inequality in a sarcastic manner. By using a car park, whist other rapper might have studios could suggest that protest rappers are unequal due to them talking about real issues. The use of car-park adds realism to the music video and it allows it to appeal greater to people.

The editing of this music video and the variety of shots that they use allow for the artist to create a very edgy feel. This adds the authenticity of the music video. The use of fast-paced editing is common in this genre. It allows the viewer of this music video to be on edge and this allows the artist to create this unique feel. I think that this was done to resemble an estate life could be like; the speed of editing could resemble how fast things change, the combination of violence and suggestions of it, how angry people could be. In addition, thing that is common in this genre is to have loads of violence. This allows people to fulfil their expectations and it agrees with the stereotypes that many people have. In addition, the amount of violence that is in this music video could also suggest that placing many people in council houses is dangerous.
