Research

Research
Some girls-
Some girls are a light- hearted programmed that is on BB3. Its target audience is similar to the one referred to in the mark scheme, 19-35. The show has 4 main characters that all have different interests. For instance, Viva has an interest in signing. All of the girls unite all to play a sport that they all love football. There are four main Leads in this show Viva (Adelayo Adebayo) who is an intelligent, driven person who aspires to go to university and avoid getting pregnant at a young age. Her voice is the wise one in the show. Viva lives with her father Rob (Colin Salmon) and his frustrating spouse Anna (Dolly Wells). There is also the aggressive Hollie (Natasha Jones) and the dim Amber (Alice Feltgate) and the sarcastic geeky Saz (Mandeep Dhilion)
This programed is a light- hearted show and the use humor to go get the narrative across or a theme. The girls are all different Ethnicity and are examples types of stereotypes. For example, Saz the Asian girl who is obsessed with mathematics could be a stereotype. Her character was created so that It could appeal to people and show that somebody else is going through their struggle. The show also has another group of females who are more attractive and more popular. These girls could’ve also have been created as an example of a stereotype. However, the more attractive females have struggles when attracting a boy meanwhile the main characters don’t. This subverts from the viewer’s expectation as they would be expecting the more popular crew to attract more boys.
The mise-en- scene of the people is based around school uniform and the setting of the show is at a school. The main characters do their school uniform well and are generally dressed well. Meanwhile the other attractive females are dressed with some buttons on done and a lot more make-up. In addition, males in this show are usually wearing tight-fit clothing and outfits that complement their metrosexual build. The extras of this show are dressed in full school uniform. The outfits are used to help people distinguish the characters with the help of stereotypes. For example, the nerdy type character would be dressed in full uniform, whist the Athletic type character or the attractive one would be dressed in a more designed outfit.
The Opening Sequence is about the 4 main characters journey to school. The Introduce the characters with a series of fast- paced shots and cuts. They all have an even amount to introduce themselves. They all give away a little about their character. For instance, the last person to be introduced has their eyes on their watch. That could suggest to the reader that see is the smart, wise person in the group. In addition, Viva the characters at the beginning lack of reaction when being grabbed could suggest she is the authorize member in the group. Also ambers jump at their start could suggest to the character violent nature. Ambers walk could also illustrate her dim character.
The Music in the Background is also an example of a light – hearted feel of the show. The uplifting feel of the music helps to set the feel of the show. For example, the opening sequence of the show has this music playing and a brief introduction of the show. Alongside, the quirky, amateurish logo that has some girls on it makes it affective. The theme tune in general was extremely affective as it was played Beginnicsssng, Middle and End of the show, or after any major event.
Overall, Some girls was almost written to replicate the male Alternative The Inbetweeners. It is clear that the writer based some plots around The Inbetweeners. The clear difference between the two is that Teenage Females lives are harder and far more complicated.
Youngers
Youngers is an E4 show that was on earlier in the year. The plot of Youngers is about two boys one rapper and one producer who want to make it big in the music industry. The producer is quiet and shy in his thoughts; whist the other character is loud and outspoken in his thoughts. They both have an interest in this female character and both desire her. One of them is doing well in school and the other one has to have a job with his dad because he isn’t doing well in school.
The show starts when Jay and Yemi are recording in his bedroom. The show starts by kissing his chain and starts rapping. Most of the shots in this sequence are close ups. Everything stops when Yemi’s mother walks in and tells Yemi to stop. Jay refuses and persuades Yemi to continue against his mother’s orders. Jay is clearly the leader in the group and very persuasive. His cheeky smile illustrates smile. Jay is the commanding person in this friendship he is the leader and has the traits of a Suceeder. Meanwhile, Yemi the other character is far quieter and grounded person, I think he has the traits of a reformer.
The next group of shots is when the main events of the show is revealed. A talent show. This has establishing shots in the entire sequence of the estate that the group is located. One of the shots is pointed towards central London showing the shard. This shot is interesting because of the radio that is over it. “A chance to get out the ends and make it big” with central London over it makes it effective. When Jay hears about the competition he is in another girl’s house. This again shows that he has the traits of a succeededer. However, it is soon clear that he is cheating and cannot settle for one female. This is shown when his other girl “Jodie” calls on the phone.
Yemis character is also interesting because his and jays relationship is damaging for him. Yemi is very intelligent and is under pressure to succeed from his family. Meanwhile, jay who has failed almost everything is clearly not on the same level intellectually as Jay. When Jays father approaches him it is clear that Jay is resigned to fail. His character appeal to a different kind of person. His character is the most relatable to people because almost everything has happened to him. His charisma and personality allows him to be naïve and enter bad situations. His struggles with females family members, wants to succeed and is unrealistic in his aims. All of these elements allow people to relate to his character. He is the brains and musical knowledge allows jay to be successful. Jay thinks he is the talented member of the group however, it soon emerges that Yemi is the truly talented member. Furthermore, Yemi character is subverts from our expectations as he isn’t violent or anyway associated with crime. He is a hard-working talented man.
The show also includes people from the YouTube hit “mandem on the wall”. They have a brief came on every show   they make. They have 3 different characters and relate well.  What interest me is how they all inter-link well and the way that affects the reader.  They all same to be in-sync with each- others joke and I want to know if that is good script or good acting. I think that it is important for us to include this in our production. Therefore, ensure that the script is written well and the acting is good aswell.
My Music
My music is a show that is on YouTube. It is about a series about music and demonstrates a new type of sitcom. They show many different types of music in this show and they all link well. The different characters represent different genres in the world. It is one of the most popular YouTube shows on television.
In addition, my music seems to incorporate many different genres effectively. As the basis of our idea is around music. They seem to effectively include all genres .Even ones that don’t otherwise seem to incorporate opposite types of genre. The show seems to be well-structed and organized and even the jokes inside this are organized and generally funny. The show also seems to use stereotypes well to generate humor. For example, the blonde women is seen as people as cheesy and naïve to real things. In addition, the Chinese women was presented as childish and easily impressed that again is a good use of a stereotype. However, the element of realism allows them to hide the use of stereotypes. This also makes it easier for us to make judgements about the characters quicker as the episodes are very small.
Another feature that interests me about this show is the way it seems so structured but yet so funny. The person that owns the business established this channel. He talks in a way that is clear; however some people could think that this is sarcastic. The script also seems to be well-written. That is something that I hope that I would be able to do. In addition, the mise-en-scene that they've used also seems to of helped the audience find out more about the character. They added to this by confirming the audience thoughts with the bar below. The outfits again could've been used as shorthand for the audience to make decisions about the character.
Arrested Development
The last show that I've chosen to analyse is arrested development. I wanted to look at this as we hope to make our show similar to this. The way it's filmed as almost like a documentary but the content inside this is mocking it. We hope to film our show like this, the sound also adds to the humour that the stereotype. The show generates humour by awkwardness and good editing.

I think they make the show like this from the way it is shot. Most of the shots look like they've been done using a handheld camera. The way they use POV shots is also interesting, This is effective in adding this amateurish feel. The selection of shots in general is very good and I think that it is the type of shots that make the show have it's amerture feel. Furthermore, the show also combines the shot list well with music. In the trailer alone they have many different types of music. This also generates humour aswell. This I think is an example of non-dietetic sound. This tells me that we must consider the audio well as it would contribute well to the success of the show.
The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang theory is an American sitcom that comes from America. It is one of the most popular imports from America. This and scrubs have both been a major hit here and in the US. The sitcom uses stereotypes to help generate humour, combined with the witty geeky humor. The show also uses a simple plot. 2 geeky guys have 1 attractive female move in as a female. The two geeker characters are both extremely intelligent. However, they have struggles meeting people and being a ordinary Human being. If there is such a thing. In addition, all of those characters appeal to different types of people. They range from a shy character (Kunal Nayyar) to the more delusional character (Simon Helgberg). That is another feature that has helped them to become one of the most successful characters in the show.

The ways that the big bang theory seems to combine the diverse characters well.  As we would be discussing music in our show and different genres of music. They seem to combine stereotypes with good acting to generate this humor. The script is well-written and this seems to be common with shows like this.

Audience Research
E4 is owned by the bigger group channel 4. E4 is one of the most channels on TV and it has successfully launched major hits like Skins, the inbetweeners and Misfits. E4 has many Facebook appreciation groups and has a target audience that is made of 16- 35 year olds. It has an eccentric and witty persona and strong branding make it a massive talking point for its target audience .Their say on their  “Through research, we know that E4 viewers are predominantly young and upmarket, also fashion conscious, sociable, connected, heavy internet users, they love going out and tend to use advertising as one of their many information sources. They are also likely to be opinion formers and more likely to talk about brands and convince them to try them out”. That is what E4 think is their target audience and I agree.E4 and E4+1 reach over 8.9m, with 52% of viewers 16-34.
BBC THREE is the BBC attempted of appealing to the 16-35 year old age range. It was previously called BBC choice but it was renamed in 2003.This channel starts at 7.00pm as it shares bandwidth with CBBC, the children channel for the BBC. On average BBC 3 reaches 9 million people weekly and over 70% of content on this channel is original. It has many different types of shows like animation, factual, documentary and comedy. With its successes being Bad education, Bluestone 42, Russell Howard’s good news It also has its 60 second news that comes on every hour. These channel viewers are predominantly young, fashionable, and sociable and they use social networks a lot. They consume TV more for entertainment but they consume media that suits them. The channels target audience is 16-34 year olds”.
Focus Group
Our focus group involved a detailed example of our idea. We said what we would like our idea to be about. We told people the location, themes and rough idea of the times. We asked them to help us with the structure and the timing of the show. We thought that from the focus group we should have 3 main characters, 2 male and male characters. One member of the focus group said that it could be tough to have 3 main characters and show it equally. That question made us think about ways we could simplify. Another member of the focus group questioned if the music we should use different type of music and be successful in doing so. An idea that came from the focus group was that we should have the opening sequence as one shot. This shot would have all of the main character doing their own musical things as one shot. We are still thinking if we should do this because it would be tough to film. A common question that occurred was the themes of the shows that we would choose. We originally wanted to record we thought would appeal to the widest audience and that would be the three most popular genres. But a point that was frequently asked was the genres we chose. If we chose many genres we would end up appealing to hardly anybody but if we are selective we would only appeal to a small audience.   Another question that is frequently asked was about the content in the opening sequence and what it could include or should include.
What we learned from the focus group is that we should think about the content of the opening sequence and what it should include. The way we should film this whether it should be all in one shot or we should make it into many shots. If we should do original music and if that should be effective and the best thing to do and consider if the amount of editing that should require. Another key point that was raised was the themes of the shows that we would be filming.
Audience We hope to Target:
We hope to target the ABC1-D demographic range. We want people who are technologically advanced and spend a lot of money on technologically They would be fashion conscious and be Young and Upmarket and sociable. They would be the Main streamers and the Aspirer of the world. Their age range would be between 16-35. A person who would watch this might also enjoy: My music, The big bang theory, Scrubs and Youngers. They would be watching this kind of show for Entertainment and to develop personal realasionships.

Media Theorys

Hypodermic model- Daily Mail- Video Games
This article argues that Video games are a bad thing for teenagers. The theory says that people who play these games for longer than 30 minutes would be aggressive for the next 3 days. This article is appropriate for The Daily Mails audience who don’t like new things and are very right- wing. However, this article uses a somewhat flawed theory which doesn’t answer the key questions. For instance, it didn’t take people pre-existing emotional concerns in to consideration. The article even states that playing video games have a long-term affect. However, this doesn’t take peoples pre-existing problems in to consideration.
This article relates to the hyper-dermic theory because the Daily mail is feeding people an idea that the hyper-dermic model would argue that the audience is helpless to resist. Therefore, they would automatically think that this is true and video games are harmful
Two- step- flow- Jamal Edwards
Jamal Edwards could be an example of and the two- step model as he is opinion generator. He is a young boy from the estate come millionaire. He could be an example of somebody who could represent the many people on estates. Jamal Edwards is a trend setter aswell because many people want to be like him.
This article Relates to the two step flow model as Jamal Edwards rise to fame is something people want to aspire to. The Rap Culture is about getting rich quick or getting fame Quick. Jamal Edwards has done both, therefore people would want to aspire to be like him and would consequently respect his opinion.
Dependency Theory
What Do I primarily use the Media for?
I Think I mostly use the media for information about what is going on in the world. To keep myself up-to date about my interests and release dates. I use it to inform myself about sports and my other interests. I would also say I use it for Entertainment in the breaks from school however, I think I use it for information more as I find it more useful.
To What Extent to you think people Dependant to the Media?
Personally, I think that I’m not dependant to the media. I use it when I want to use It and if I don’t use it I could find out things in another way. Generally, I think that many people are dependant and an example of this could be social media. For instance, people that frequently post tweets are dependant to twitter. I think technology is to blame for people’s new found addiction.
Has the dependence changed during last 10 years?
I think it has for the worst. As technology advances it enables people to use their mobile phones and tablets to access media. In addition, 10 years ago 3g was in its early stages and wasn’t available to people. Now 3G is widely available therefore it makes it easier for people to access media.

Users and Gratifications

This theory suggests that people use media to fulfil their own needs and ambitions and that it caters for people 4 basic needs: Diversion, Personal relationships, Personal identity and Surveillance. Diversion caters for people who need an escape from their lives. Personal Identity is for people who use the media to gain knowledge about them .Personal Relationships is for enables people to interact with other humans. Surveillance is for people who use the media to find out about their surroundings and what’s’ going on.

Surveillance
BBC news could be an example for people who want to find out about their surroundings. It offers them a chance to feel up-to-date with the UK and their Local area.

Diversion
People would use magazines like heat as a diversion to their own lives. They would enjoy reading about other peoples lives as it would distract them from their lives.

Personal Relationships:
Skype would be an example of something that enables people to interact with others. They could speak to anybody over this platform therefore developing their relationships.
Personal Identity:
A show like Waterloo road would enable people to represent what they feel their like, show their struggles to everybody.

LR:Preliminary Exercise

From my Preliminary exercise we found out what I Should avoid doing in the actual task. Firstly, I would ensure that the camera is still throughout the actual task.We would re-shoot the scene several times to ensure that we Could edit out what jerked.Another thing that I learned is that we should also view the task many times and see if everything fits.We also improve the timing of each shot is important because if the timing is wrong the audience will think it's amateur if the timing is bad.
